“The poor and needy search for water,
but there is none;
their tongues are parched with thirst.
But I the Lord will answer them;
I, the God of Israel, will not forsake them.
18 I will make rivers flow on barren heights,
and springs within the valleys.
I will turn the desert into pools of water,
and the parched ground into springs.
19 I will put in the desert
the cedar and the acacia, the myrtle and the olive.
I will set junipers in the wasteland,
the fir and the cypress together,
20 so that people may see and know,
may consider and understand,
that the hand of the Lord has done this,
that the Holy One of Israel has created it.”
How you provide for the poor and needy. You bring refreshment when they thirst. How you have provided beyond what I need Lord. I often confuse my desire for more with thirst. Forgive me when I do not thirst out of need but out of greed. I worry that I am like a man swimming in a lake complaining of his thirst for the sea. It brings me hope to know that you bring refreshment to all those who seek it. If you can cause a tree to grow in the desert, I know you can grow faith in any man or woman who seeks you. Help me to see how you are watering the faithless deserts of this world to grow trees of faith and righteousness that point only to the work of your powerful hands. Help me today to be a part of what you are doing to bring water to this parched land.
